New Opportunity Open to Fabricators
The 1st Plastics Machining & Fabricating Conference is coming to Chicago Oct. 20-22

By Karen Koenig

Karen Koenig
Editor-In-Chief
For the first time ever, there is a conference dedicated to educating plastics fabricators and machine shop personnel about the equipment and technology available to help them improve their jobs.

The 1st Plastics Machining & Fabricating Conference will be held Oct. 20-22 at the Holiday Inn City Centre in Downtown Chicago. The conference is sponsored by Plastics Machining & Fabricating Magazine.

Geared specifically toward secondary plastics processing, the information provided by industry experts will be applicable to all markets, whether they be automotive, electronics, aerospace, POP, contract furniture or other industry segments.

Topics under discussion include the state of the plastics industry and the fundamentals of: engineered plastics, nylon, acrylic, polycarbonate, anti-static and conductive plastics.

Also covered will be: thermoforming tips and techniques; router bit and saw blade technology; routing and trimming techniques; laser technology; panel saw developments; adhesive bonding and welding; and decorating options including printing/stamping, foiling, heat transfer and painting.

Of special interest are the case histories by Eastern Plastics Inc. and Brookdale Plastics which focus on maintaining quality control in a high production facility and manufacturing for a custom environment. (For a complete program listing, see article beginning on page 28.)

Tabletop Exhibits on Display

Tabletop exhibits will be available for viewing throughout the seminar program, including Wednesday's early-bird

reception, Thursday's evening reception and Thursday morning prior to the seminar's start. Products and literature on display will run the gamut from materials to machines.

For more information on the conference, contact either myself at (847) 634-4347 or the Industrial Division Conference Office at (630) 323-7214, (888) 903-9663; FAX (630) 323-6989.

This conference will be a great opportunity to not only learn more about the technology, but to network with other industry personnel. I hope to see you there.

SPE Conference for Marketing and Management

As a board member of the Marketing and Management Division of the Society of Plastics Engineers, I would also like to take a moment to mention another must-see conference with tabletop exhibits, this one scheduled for December in New Jersey.

On Dec. 1 and 2, the Marketing and Management Division will host "Best Marketing Practices for Bridging the Millennium." Geared toward marketing personnel, business managers, owners and anyone looking to build their career skills, the conference will include a half-day session, "Business War College Workshop." Also presented will be a day-long session on marketing and management techniques as well as case studies on strategies for growth.

For more information, contact Jeff Tremonte at the SPE, (203) 775-0471 or E-Mail: jatremonte@4spe.org.
