ANNUAL CONVENTION PROMISES TO BE THE BEST
YET!

The Big D proved to be a popular
destination for IAPD members at the
51st IAPD Annual Convention in Dallas,
TX, USA, from October 3 to 7, 2007.
The convention hosted 458 fully
registered delegates, 50 companions
and 137 registered attendees for the
special IAPD Plastics Applications
Seminar and Exhibition. That’s 54 more
full and Saturday only delegates than
Chicago, IL, USA, in 2005, and 91 more
than Vancouver, BC, Canada, in 2006.
The convention also welcomed 51
first-time attendees.

Among the exciting events at the
convention, Dallas Cowboys football great
Roger Staubach relived his football days
for a large audience before signing
autographs during the coffee break.
Staubach highlighted his time with the
Cowboys while incorporating the lessons he
learned on the field into doing business.
Delegates also had a unique opportunity to
network during the Welcome Reception. A
Texas Hold ’Em Tournament and other casino
games allowed attendees to connect with
important business contacts while having
some fun.
Also during the convention, a special
two-hour version of the IAPD Plastics
Applications Seminar proved to be valuable
for newer employees, as well as seasoned
professionals. “(The seminar) covered a
broad range of applications that provided
food for thought,” said Rick Moore of
Cut-To-Size Plastics Pty. Ltd.
During the annual awards, George Southard,
CPMR, of G S Sales was presented the 2007
Paul Davis Award of Merit. The award,
IAPD’s most prestigious, is given in
recognition of an individual’s outstanding
work on behalf of the plastics
distribution industry, the plastics
industry as a whole or for the
association. With his extensive work as a
volunteer leader and trainer for IAPD,
Southard was more than deserving, said
2006 award recipient Ralph Meyer of Meyer
Plastics, Inc.
“George is often out front providing not
only the leadership, but also the momentum
to get the job done,” Meyer said as he
presented the award to Southard. “Beyond a
doubt, the IAPD and the plastics
distribution industry has been touched,
educated, renewed and improved due to the
efforts of this great man.”
Change Committee Chair Chip Whitfield of
Piedmont Plastics, Inc., was awarded the
Pacesetter Award in honor of his work as
chair of the Change Committee, and Shawn
Chambers, Warehoused Plastic Sales, Inc.,
A Member of Prisma Plastics International
Inc., was presented the Good Egg Award for
his contributions to
The
IAPD Magazine.
IAPD also highlighted the bylaw changes
that would make IAPD more inclusive and
stronger than ever. Members were given an
overview of the changes during the General
Session, and they were then encouraged to
attend the Town Hall Meeting to ask
questions. The bylaws will be put to a
vote this fall, with the ballots being
sent to all key voting members later this
month. An overview of the changes is
